Using Corel Gallery Magic
Corel Gallery Magic is not the most intuitive program in the world, but it is capable of converting files into the Adobe Illustrator format that Metacreations Painter can use. Exporting Clipart from Corel Gallery MagicThe following procedure is the way to take a vector clipart image from Corel Gallery Magic and exporting it in Illustrator format. |
File Open Make sure that Drives points to your CD-ROM (on my computer, it's g:) Folders needs to be opened to albums (not clipart). Double-click albums to open it. List files of type should point to the default, Gallery Albums Go to the album of interest by picking it in File name. The album name is usually the same as the left and middle headers that the image is depicted on in the manual. In this particular case, it wasn't entirely accurate. The image that this example is using is in the Special Occasions/Christmas section of the manual. |
Scroll through the album in the right window and click on the image that is wanted. Corel Gallery Magic unfortunately does not allow selecting a file based on its filename. The manual shows that it can be done, but following the instructions step by step does not allow the file to be selected from the File/Open menu. |
File Export Change the Export Files as Type to Adobe Illustrator (*.ai,*.eps). Under Directories, double click through the directory structure to the directory that should contain the new file. Silly as it is to say this, remember what directory is picked. Way too many people go with the default directory and then cannot remember what directory the file is located in. |
Exporting Other Clipart Using Corel Gallery MagicCorel Gallery Magic can also be used to export vector clipart from other clipart packages. As with aspects of this program, it's awkward, but it can be done. |
File New This will create a new album. Ensure that the Drive Window is open: View and make sure Drive Window is checked. Drag the file into the album.
Go through the directory tree structure to find the clipart images wanted
on the left side of the Drive Window. Then drag
the filename into the album and release it. When the file is released, Corel Gallery Magic will ask, Copy selected items to Album1:\ ? Click OK. This will drop it into the album. If the clipart isn't in a Corel file format, it will only display as an icon. The image will not be shown as a thumbnail. It's now ready to be exported. Follow instruction 3 above to export the file. |
